How to create Facebook overlays
Here’s step by step on how to create a Facebook overlays. I’m going to show an online tool. I use to create overlay graphics for FB live overlays. And I’ll show how easy it is to upload your Facebook overlays to Facebook Frame Studio.
First, you want to create your Facebook overlay graphic. I use an online tool called Canva.com to create them. It’s easy for you to signup and start to create your first frame. Also, I’m giving you some FREE templates to get you started.

After you signup for Canva.com, you can open a template in start editing right away. You can edit templates text and graphics. Canva has a large assortment of elements to choose from.

You can upload your own logo and graphics by clicking upload on the bottom left side of the screen.

After creating your Facebook overlay, you can download it by clicking the download button on the top right corner of the screen. Choose your file type, I suggest using PNG.
You have to check the transparent background. It will allow you to easily upload and key your overlay in the Facebook frame studio. I suggest signing up for Canva pro for you to do this.


After downloading your Facebook overlay. You want to go to the Facebook frame studio to upload and create your overlay. You can click here to log in to the Facebook frame studio. And you can click button create a frame to get started.

You’ll see a window pop up showing an open window. Choose and click the Facebook camera on the left side of the window. And you can click the upload art button to upload your Facebook overlay.
You can position and resize your overlay anywhere on the screen. The left side of you will be able to see how your overlay will look on portrait and landscape mode on a cell phone.
You add more than one Facebook overlay to your screen combining them. After approving your frame you just click the next button on the bottom right corner of the screen.

You will be taken to another screen to fill out some information.
Name: Facebook overlay frame name.
Location: Make a frame available anywhere or only available in a specific location.
Schedule: You can make active right away or set a start and end date.
Keywords: You can add keywords making it easy for you to search for your Facebook overlays in frame studio.
After checking and filling out the information, just click the next button on the bottom right of the screen.

You’re all done, you just published your first frame. It will show how your Facebook overlay will look on a cell phone. You can click the next button at the bottom right of the screen.

You will be taken to the menu to see all your Facebook frames created and check if your frame is active. You’ll see a blue check and word active showing this.
If the frame is active you should be able to see your Facebook overlay in the Facebook app when going live. If you don’t see it, just wait a while for it to appear. If you still don’t see it, just try uploading it again.
